Two women accused of illegally recruiting workers with promises of overseas employment are now in custody after a joint operation by the Department of Migrant Workers and the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in General Trias, Cavite.
Authorities identified the suspects as Elmina Hajiruk Jawad, known as “Mau,” and Angelina Paridjal Abduhasan, known as “Josh.” Both were arrested following complaints filed by victims who had been promised work as nannies in Dubai at a monthly salary of AED 1,600.
A DMW verification check found no approved job order authorizing the suspects’ recruitment agency to deploy workers to Dubai — a red flag that prompted the complainants to formally file their grievances with the DMW Migrant Workers Protection Bureau on the morning before the arrests.
The suspects had allegedly assured at least three applicants that the deployment process was legitimate and that their departure was imminent. During the operation, authorities also discovered additional victims at the location, who were immediately rescued by operatives.
Charges related to violations of anti-illegal recruitment laws are now being prepared against both suspects.
The DMW Migrant Workers Protection Bureau is urging anyone else who may have been victimized by “Mau” or “Josh” to come forward and seek free legal assistance through the agency’s Facebook page at facebook.com/dmwairtip.
