UAE public sector gets five-day Eid Al Adha break starting May 25

Federal government employees in the UAE will have five consecutive days off later this month, as the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has confirmed the official holiday period for Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha.

The break runs from Monday, May 25, through Friday, May 29, with federal employees returning to work on Monday, June 1.

Eid Al Adha, observed as the Festival of Sacrifice, falls during the annual Hajj pilgrimage season and is preceded by Arafat Day, which holds particular significance in the Islamic calendar. The occasion is marked by communal prayers, the distribution of meat to those in need, and family and social gatherings.

The authority made the announcement on Tuesday, May 12. A separate schedule for private sector workers has yet to be issued and is expected to come from the relevant labour authorities.

Among the UAE’s official public holidays, the Eid Al Adha break is one of the most extended, and many residents use the period for international travel or leisure within the country.
