Bahrain revokes citizenship of 69 people for supporting Iran during Gulf war

Sixty-nine individuals have lost their Bahraini citizenship following convictions tied to contact with foreign entities and the promotion of Iranian military strikes carried out during last month’s regional hostilities, the kingdom’s authorities announced.

The convictions stem from a security operation targeting social media activity during the 39-day US-Israel war on Iran, which brought missile and drone strikes across the Gulf. Authorities accused those arrested of posting content judged to incite public disorder and threaten the stability of the kingdom.

Bahrain has also stepped up surveillance of digital activity, issuing public warnings against circulating or amplifying material considered harmful to national security. Officials framed the citizenship revocations as part of a sustained effort to address threats linked to foreign-backed networks and external actors operating within or targeting the country.

The crackdown reflects a broader posture Bahrain has maintained in confronting what it characterizes as organized attempts to exploit regional conflict to destabilize the kingdom from within.
