Two of the Philippines’ most iconic chicken preparations have earned spots in TasteAtlas’ latest ranking of the world’s best chicken dishes, with chicken inasal claiming third place and chicken adobo entering at 40th.
Inasal na Manok secured its position with a 4.4 rating, tying with the top two entries — South Korea’s fried chicken and Peru’s Pollo a la brasa, or roasted chicken. The dish, which traces its roots to Western Visayas, is prepared with a vinegar-based marinade incorporating lemongrass, garlic, and ginger, then finished with annatto-infused oil that gives it its distinctive golden hue. It is not the first time the dish has appeared on the platform’s radar, having previously been recognized in both 2022 and 2024.
Chicken adobo, the traditional stew built around a combination of soy sauce, white vinegar, garlic, onions, bay leaves, peppercorns, oil, and brown sugar, rated 4.1 to land at 40th. Typically served with rice, the dish is among the most widely recognized staples of Philippine home cooking.
The Department of Tourism took note of the recognition, saying it helps “elevate Filipino culinary traditions on the global stage while creating meaningful opportunities across the food and tourism value chain—from farmers and food producers to chefs, restaurateurs, and small business owners.”
Among the other dishes featured in the April 2026 ranking are Japan’s karaage, torikatsu, and yakitori, the United Kingdom’s Chicken Tikka Masala, and Taiwan’s popcorn chicken.
TasteAtlas, which describes itself as an encyclopedia of flavors, maps traditional dishes, local ingredients, and restaurants that have gained recognition both locally and internationally.
