A combined flood control and pedestrian infrastructure project along part of East Capitol Drive and Sta. Rosa Street in Kapitolyo is now finished, with Pasig City having spent P2.2 million on the work.
The project included the laying of a 232-meter drainage line made up of reinforced concrete culvert pipes, along with concrete inlet manholes designed to channel rainwater off the road and into the drainage network. A one-meter-wide concrete sidewalk was built over the drainage line and equipped with safety bollards.
The effort is part of a broader drainage master plan authorized under Pasig City Resolution 175-11, series of 2023, which was drawn up to address long-term flooding problems across the city.
Mayor Vico Sotto said the city intends to enforce laws prohibiting the discharge of untreated wastewater into drainage lines, noting that the practice contributes to clogging and flooding. He also cited making Pasig’s road network more walkable as a parallel goal, with the administration focused on ensuring sidewalks remain functional and safe for pedestrians.
The city announced the project’s completion on Friday.
