DMW to OFWs in Middle East: Don’t believe everything you see on social media

Overseas Filipino workers in the Middle East are being warned against spreading or believing unverified information circulating on social media, as the Department of Migrant Workers calls on the community to turn exclusively to official channels for updates on the regional security situation.

The DMW said OFWs should monitor announcements from Philippine embassies, Migrant Workers Offices, and local authorities in their host countries — and avoid sharing unconfirmed posts that could trigger unnecessary panic among Filipino workers in the region.

Working alongside the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, the department said it remains in active coordination with Philippine diplomatic and welfare offices across the Middle East to monitor conditions on the ground and deliver assistance where needed.

OFWs are also advised to stay alert, steer clear of areas that may pose safety risks, and follow only guidance issued by verified government accounts.
