Drone incidents near Dubai airport leave four workers injured as operations recover

Four airport employees sustained injuries after two separate drone-related incidents affected the area around Dubai International Airport, with authorities confirming that operations have since stabilized.

The most recent incident involved two drones that came down in the vicinity of DXB on Wednesday morning. Three of the injured — two Ghanaian nationals and one Bangladeshi national — suffered minor injuries, while an Indian national sustained moderate injuries. Air traffic at the airport is currently running normally.

An earlier incident on March 1 caused minor structural damage to a concourse at the airport. “Four staff sustained injuries and received prompt medical attention. Due to contingency plans already in place, most of the terminals were previously cleared of passengers,” Dubai Airports said.

Dubai Airports, which manages both DXB and DWC, had partially suspended operations before resuming a degree of service from March 7. Passengers are still being advised not to proceed to either airport unless their airline has directly confirmed that their specific flight is going ahead, as schedules remain subject to change.

The disruptions come as DXB was riding a record-breaking streak heading into 2025. The airport recorded 95.2 million passengers in the previous year — a 3.1 percent increase over the prior year — the highest annual international passenger volume ever logged by any single airport. The fourth quarter alone accounted for 25.1 million guests, a 5.9 percent jump from the same period in 2024, while total flight movements for the year reached 454,800, up 3.3 percent year on year.
