The Mellow Dees release debut album ‘Walls Might Melt’

The Mellow Dees, a rising band in the music scene, have released their debut album, “Walls Might Melt.” This concept album narrates the journey of a woman confronting her troubled past while under the influence of magic mushrooms. It’s a voyage through emotions like betrayal, despair, and hope, culminating in redemption and enlightenment.

The making of “Walls Might Melt”

The album was a collaborative effort, with all songs written by band members Melody, Wolf, and Nievera. Melody also provided the lyrics. The production involved The Mellow Dees and Anjelo Alonte, with the recording process spanning 19 months, from February 2022 to September 2023. It was recorded in various locations, including The Rattle, Mack Sennet Studios in Los Angeles, Anjelo’s garage in Glendale, and Melody’s house in Long Beach.

Phil Recto played bass guitar on all songs except “Lamán,” which was played by Nievera. The engineering was handled by John Moran and Anjelo Alonte, with mixing by Diego Garrido in Brooklyn, New York, and mastering by Nicolas Essig in Los Angeles, along with Chrisanthony Vinzons in Manila for “Lamán.”

The band initially planned to record ten songs but eventually decided to include eight. One of the tracks, “Sakim (Amber Alert),” was a late addition, written by Melody in April 2022 and included after the band members decided to incorporate it post-jamming.

The album’s title, “Walls Might Melt,” symbolizes the breaking down of protective barriers, exposing the protagonist to her unhealed wounds and past demons. It’s a metaphorical journey, echoing the effects of the mushrooms and the emotional upheaval they trigger.
