Work from home if you can, UAE government tells private sector workers

The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has recommended that private sector companies shift employees to remote work for three days as Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting American military assets on the country’s soil continue.

The ministry’s guidance covers Sunday, 1 March through Tuesday, 3 March, and advises employers to keep workers away from open areas where possible. Staff in essential or vital roles that require physical attendance are exempt.

Any formal decision to suspend operations remains at the discretion of local authorities in each emirate, the ministry noted, encouraging businesses to monitor official federal and local channels for updates as the situation develops.

The recommendation comes as Iranian missiles and drones continue to be intercepted over UAE territory. Four people have been injured by falling shrapnel, and Dubai International Airport, the Burj Al Arab hotel and the Palm Jumeirah island all sustained damage. The UAE Ministry of Defence said its forces have destroyed 132 of 137 ballistic missiles detected since the attacks began, along with 195 of 209 drones. Five missiles came down in the sea while 14 drones landed within the country’s territory and waters.

Tehran launched the strikes against the UAE and several other Gulf states — including Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar — in retaliation for a joint US-Israeli attack on Iran, according to Iran’s state-linked Fars news agency.
