Motorists in Dubai are being alerted to a major road closure scheduled for Sunday morning, November 12. Sheikh Zayed Road, a principal highway in Dubai, will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic to accommodate the Dubai Ride cycling event. This closure affects the stretch from the Trade Centre roundabout to the Safa Park interchange (2nd interchange).
In addition to Sheikh Zayed Road, Lower Financial Centre Street and Trade Centre Street will also be closed to traffic. The duration of the road closures is not yet confirmed, but based on last year’s event, they may last from 4 am to 9 am. The Dubai Ride is set to commence at 6.15 am and conclude at 8.15 am.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) advises motorists to plan their journeys in advance and has provided alternative routes. These include Al Hadiqa Street, Al Wasl Street, Al Khail Road, Al Meydan Street, Al Asayel Street, 2nd Zaa’beel Street, 2nd December Street, and Al Mustaqbal Street.
Dubai Ride, a key part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) initiated in 2017 by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, features two cycling routes catering to various skill levels. Participants will cycle past several of Dubai’s iconic landmarks, such as the Museum of the Future, Dubai Water Canal, Burj Khalifa, and other attractions in Sheikh Zayed Road and Downtown Dubai. Last year, the event saw a turnout of 34,897 cyclists.
