Veteran actress and television host Sharon Cuneta publicly addressed criticism surrounding the recent meeting between President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, insisting that the encounter should not be viewed through a political lens.
Taking to Facebook on February 22, Cuneta reacted to online commentary questioning the optics of the meeting between Marcos and his 2022 presidential rival. She rejected suggestions that the interaction was insincere or opportunistic.
“My President Mam Leni @atty.lenirobredo with OUR President, Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. Walang balimbingan o plastikan,” she wrote at the start of her post.
Cuneta explained that the gathering was an expression of gratitude toward a leader who continues to support the city and its constituents. She went on to distinguish what she described as loyalty from political turncoatism.
“Pagpapasalamat lamang sa sumusuporta sa kanyang mahal na lungsod at bayan.
“Ang balimbing ay iiwan ang tapat na samahan para sa pangsariling kapakanan,” she said.
The Megastar further elaborated on her view of integrity in public life, emphasizing that caring for the public does not equate to abandoning one’s principles.
“Ang nagmamalasakit ay lalagay sa tama, lalo kapag na-traydor, at higit lalo kung para sa kapakanan ng taumbayan.
“Ang plastic ay lahat kinakaibigan para sa sariling kapakanan.
“Ang sibilisado at disente ay nakikitungo at rumerespeto sa sinumang rumerespeto sa kanya nang hindi sinusuko ang prinsipyo,” she added.
Prior to Cuneta’s statement, representatives from both Robredo and Marcos had already denied that the Naga meeting carried any political agenda.Sharon says respect, not politics, defined Marcos and Robredo encounter
