OFWs no longer pay up to P6,000 to renew driver’s licenses abroad

Costs that once reached as much as ₱6,000 for medical requirements and document delivery will no longer be charged to overseas Filipino workers renewing their Philippine driver’s licenses through government service caravans abroad.

The Land Transportation Office said the removal of these fees is mandated under a newly issued memorandum that applies to renewal services conducted during joint caravans of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the Department of Migrant Workers.

LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said the policy establishes a dedicated arrangement for OFWs, citing the need to formally recognize their economic contributions and personal sacrifices made while working outside the country.

“Our OFWs continue to sacrifice, far from their families and loved ones, for the good of the nation. This program is a concrete way for the government to show that they are valued and not forgotten while facilitating the process of renewing their driver’s licenses,” he said.

Lacanilao added that the measure is intended to remove both financial burden and administrative difficulty for workers renewing their licenses overseas.

The LTO noted that OFWs covered by the program are no longer required to return to the Philippines, as renewal services are available directly through OWWA and DMW caravans held in host countries.
