UAE president says partnership deal opens new chapter with Philippines

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan were present in Abu Dhabi for the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries, marking a new phase in bilateral economic relations.

In a post shared on his official account, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed said he joined President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in the UAE capital to witness the agreement’s signing, which took place during the Philippine leader’s working visit to the country, coinciding with Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

“I had the pleasure of joining President Ferdinand Marcos Jr (@bongbongmarcos) in Abu Dhabi to witness the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and the Philippines,” Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan wrote.

According to the UAE leader, the agreement strengthens the long-standing relationship between Manila and Abu Dhabi and sets the direction for deeper economic engagement. “This agreement further cements our two countries’ close and longstanding ties, and paves the way for a new era of trade and investment cooperation between us,” he added.

The CEPA signing comes amid broader diplomatic engagements between the Philippines and the UAE, as President Marcos continues efforts to expand partnerships in trade, investment, and sustainable development. His visit to Abu Dhabi also included participation in high-level discussions at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, where global leaders gathered to address climate action, infrastructure, and economic resilience.

The economic partnership agreement is expected to support increased market access, facilitate investment flows, and enhance cooperation across key sectors, reflecting the growing strategic and economic links between the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates.
