Indian Air Force pilot identified after fatal Tejas crash at Dubai Airshow

Authorities have confirmed that the Indian Air Force officer who died in the Tejas fighter jet crash at the Dubai Airshow was Wing Commander Namansh Syal, a native of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh. He was conducting an aerial routine at Al Maktoum International Airport when the aircraft went down.

News of the accident prompted immediate tributes. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, posting on X, described the fallen officer as a “courageous and dutiful” serviceman and added, “The nation has lost a brave son,” calling the development “profoundly saddening”.

The Indian Air Force reported that Syal suffered fatal injuries in the crash, and officials have convened a court of inquiry to investigate what led to the mid-air failure. In a statement, the service noted, “The IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family.”

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, which manufactures the Tejas, also issued a message of sympathy, saying it was “deeply saddened” and offering condolences to Syal’s loved ones.

The incident is the second recorded mishap involving a Tejas aircraft, following a 2024 crash near Jaisalmer during a training mission in which the pilot survived after ejecting.
