‘Pinay Mums in UAE’ founder Andrea Sanidad-Brindley declared ‘Global Icon’

The third annual Global Filipino Icon Awards, presented by The Global Filipino Magazine, recognized Filipinos who have made outstanding contributions to both the Filipino and international communities. This year’s event, held on October 28, 2023, at the Star Cinemas in Al Ghurair Centre, Deira, Dubai, was nothing short of extraordinary.

Topping the list of distinguished honorees was Filipina mom and founder of Pinay Mums in UAE, Andrea Sanidad-Brindley. The 27-year-old entrepreneur built a thriving online community for Filipina mothers in the UAE. Originally named “First Time Mamas UAE,” the group grew in influence and recognition, even catching the attention of Facebook for its notable growth and engagement.

Sanidad-Brindley’s brainchild serves as an invaluable resource, acting as a “Motherhood directory” for its members. Beyond its online platform, it has become a family to many, fostering genuine relationships, emotional support, and business opportunities. The group is a testament to Sanidad-Brindley’s commitment to community service and her adherence to Filipino values, especially “bayanihan” or community cooperation.

At the awards ceremony, an emotional Sanidad-Brindley shared that she never anticipated becoming a finalist. On learning about her nomination, she humorously recalled thinking there had been a mistake in the email from The Global Filipino Magazine.

Alongside Sanidad-Brindley, 11 other exemplary Filipinos were recognized as finalists: Blair Agero, Leslie Baptista, Engr. Teofilo De Sagun, Chef Roberto Fortuno, Rommel Tuscano, Jover Dela Cruz, HE Dr. Edna Joyce Santos, Ricardo Amante, Dr. Jay Hontanosas, Maria Paz Marquez, and Engr. Ronet Closa.

The event also celebrated Special Awardees, including Lorgie Asaad, Cris Gudia, Bengs Hyu, Shiela Alcaraz, Rizza Mae Alinsoot, Imah Dumagay, Margie Lumagbas Al-Abdali, Isabel Caronan Kassab, Aquino Plotado, and Donna Cepe.

The night concluded with the recognition of Star Icon Awardees: Miss Mariane de Guzman, Salimar Salomabao, Winonah Buenaventura Bicodo, and Jonalyn Candelario.
