Marcos’ declared wealth rises from ₱79M to ₱1.375B in two decades

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s declared wealth has grown dramatically over the past 20 years, supported by submissions to the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and separate valuations conducted by a professional appraiser.

The most recent assessment from Cuervo Appraisers placed the President and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos’ combined net worth at P1.375 billion as of December 31, 2024. Cuervo has been reviewing the couple’s properties since 1997, and its figures form part of the analysis cited by GMA Integrated News Research on “24 Oras.”

Public records show that Marcos has been filing two sets of figures across the years: the Cuervo-appraised value of assets included in his annual SALNs, and the net worth declared strictly under CSC rules, which do not allow appraised values of certain properties.

When Marcos first reported his wealth as governor of Ilocos Norte in 2005, his SALN reflected P79 million. Two years later, at the close of his final year in the province, the amount had reached P120 million.

His first term in Congress saw another jump. By 2008, his SALN reported nearly P180 million, followed in 2009 by a surge of more than P135 million, bringing the total above P315.5 million. That increase was attributed to his share of a Cabuyao property that the Sandiganbayan ordered returned to his family.

As a senator in 2010, his declared wealth stood at P311.5 million. The figure changed significantly in 2012, when he began reporting his net worth based on CSC’s methodology. That same year, he declared P193 million, while the Cuervo-appraised valuation for the couple—boosted by investments, stock holdings, and an art collection—reached P437 million, despite liabilities exceeding P34 million.

The Cuervo assessment rose to P510 million in 2014 and P533 million the following year. His SALNs under CSC rules reflected nearly P200.6 million in 2014 and more than P211 million in 2015, the year before he ran for vice president.

By the end of his Senate term in 2016, the Cuervo-appraised amount had increased to P619 million, though his CSC-based declaration slightly dipped to almost P203.8 million.

Upon winning the presidency in 2022, the First Couple’s Cuervo-appraised net worth exceeded P908 million. Their latest valuation—P1.375 billion—marks the highest recorded figure for the family in nearly three decades of appraisals.

According to CSC reporting rules, Marcos’ most recent official declaration lists P389 million in net worth as of end-2024.
