GSIS offers P40,000 emergency loan at 6% interest for typhoon-hit members and pensioners

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has launched a nationwide emergency loan program of up to ₱40,000 for government workers and pensioners affected by Typhoon “Tino” and the approaching Typhoon “Uwan.”

The assistance, open until February 7, 2026, aims to provide immediate financial relief to active GSIS members, as well as old-age and disability pensioners.

Eligible first-time borrowers may apply for a ₱20,000 loan, while existing borrowers can renew and receive up to ₱40,000, from which any outstanding balance will be deducted. The loans are payable in 36 months at a 6 percent annual interest rate, with monthly amortizations automatically deducted from salaries or pensions.

To qualify, active members must be in government service, not on unpaid leave, and have paid at least three months of premiums within the last six months. They should also have no pending administrative or criminal cases, no overdue loans exceeding six months, and a minimum take-home pay of ₱5,000 after deductions. Pensioners, on the other hand, may apply if at least 25 percent of their basic monthly pension remains after loan deductions.

As of November 7, the Office of Civil Defense reported that Typhoon Tino has left 188 people dead, 135 missing, and 96 injured across the Visayas region. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared a state of national calamity following the widespread destruction.

Meanwhile, Supertyphoon Uwan—still outside the Philippine area of responsibility—was last spotted 1,985 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao, moving westward at 20 kilometers per hour and expected to enter the country over the weekend.
