Philippines sees another drop in live births in 2024, PSA reports

The country registered fewer babies for the second straight year, with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reporting a 6.3 percent dip in live births in 2024. Provisional figures show a total of 1,357,203 births last year, down from 1,448,522 in 2023.

The decline brings the number of births below even the 2022 total of 1,455,393, ending what was a brief rebound in birth registrations following the pandemic years.

Calabarzon recorded the highest share of babies born in 2024 with 205,212 births, representing 15.1 percent of the national count. The National Capital Region followed with 152,506 births, or 11.2 percent. On the other end of the spectrum, the Cordillera Administrative Region posted the lowest total at 23,598 births, making up just 1.7 percent.

There were more male babies than female last year, with 704,798 boys and 652,405 girls registered. This compares with 753,332 males and 695,190 females recorded in 2023.

The PSA clarified that the figures, as of August 31, 2025, include babies born to Filipino residents abroad, as well as births in the Philippines involving foreign nationals.
