All commercial airports in the Philippines are on heightened alert until November 4, as announced by the country’s civil aviation authority (CAAP). This decision comes in light of the upcoming local council elections and the All Souls’ Day holidays.
The CAAP spokesperson, Eric Apolonio, during a public briefing, informed that travelers should expect rigorous screenings, including thorough inspection of suspicious items like shoes. This measure is part of a broader effort to handle the expected surge in passengers and baggage during this period.
The move to elevate the security alert level was also influenced by recent bomb threats, prompting all 42 airports in the country to maintain an alert level 1 status since the beginning of the month.
Between October 28 and November 4, CAAP will enforce its comprehensive security plan to manage the rising number of travelers and ensure their safety. Notably, the barangay elections are scheduled for October 30, followed by the holidays starting on November 1.
To facilitate the smooth handling of passengers, additional staff have been deployed, especially at check-in counters. Apolonio assured, “All our airports are ready.”
For those flying to or within the Philippines during this period, it’s recommended to arrive at the airport two to three hours prior to their flight and stay updated with their airlines about any potential delays or cancellations.
