Pasig court says no to Quiboloy’s request for hospital arrest

A Pasig City court has denied the request of detained religious leader Apollo Quiboloy to be placed under hospital arrest, ruling that there is no sufficient basis for such an arrangement.

In an order made public on Thursday, the Pasig Regional Trial Court Branch 159 said Quiboloy’s medical needs were already being properly addressed at the Pasig City Jail, noting that he continues to receive “appropriate, timely and sufficient medical care” under the supervision of qualified health professionals.

“The records clearly establish that his medical needs are being adequately and consistently attended to while in the custody of the Pasig city jail,” the court stated.

The defense team had argued that the 75-year-old Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder was suffering from fever, muscle pain, cough, and shortness of breath—symptoms that the court pointed out were already resolved following medical clearance in September.

This is not the first time Quiboloy’s motion for hospital confinement has been denied. A similar plea was rejected last year.

Quiboloy is facing multiple criminal charges in the Philippines, including qualified human trafficking and sexual and child abuse. He is also indicted in the United States for alleged sex trafficking, conspiracy, and immigration fraud.

In August, Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Jose Manuel Romualdez disclosed that Washington had expressed intent to seek Quiboloy’s extradition in June. However, both the Department of Justice and the Department of Foreign Affairs have clarified that no formal extradition request has been received.
