Two missing Filipino domestic workers in Hong Kong found safe, says DMW

Two overseas Filipino workers who went missing in Hong Kong earlier this month have been found safe, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed on Friday.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said in a virtual press briefing that OFWs Imme Mahilum Pabuaya, 24, and Aleli Perez Tibay, 33, were located late Thursday night and brought to a local police station in the Tseun Wan District.

“Last night, around 10:30 p.m., our MWO assistant labor attaché received a call from our case officer that the two have been found and brought to a police station in Hong Kong,” Cacdac said.

He added that the two women were retrieved shortly after and taken to the Migrant Workers Office (MWO), where they received psychosocial counseling from a social service attaché. “They are both in good condition, safe and sound in our Migrant Workers’ Office in Hong Kong,” he said.

The two domestic workers told authorities they had got lost while hiking along the Lung Mun Country Trail, leading to their disappearance on October 4.

Cacdac said both had been terminated from employment due to their absence and are now awaiting the outcome of an investigation into the full circumstances of their disappearance. Their stay in Hong Kong, he noted, will depend on the final status of their termination and the results of their medical assessment.
