Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reminded commuters to stay alert and practice proper etiquette while using the Metro — warning that those caught sitting in restricted areas or obstructing movement could face fines starting at AED 100.
The advisory follows increasing complaints from riders about passengers occupying non-passenger zones, particularly at the intersections between train cabins, where movement is often blocked during peak hours.
In response to a commuter’s social media suggestion to post “Do Not Sit Here” stickers, the RTA thanked the passenger for the feedback and apologized for any inconvenience caused. Authorities confirmed that inspectors are deployed regularly across Metro stations to monitor compliance and issue fines when necessary.
RTA officials urged the public to help maintain smooth and comfortable travel by observing key rules: respect personal space, allow others to exit before boarding, move further inside the cabins, and avoid sitting in non-passenger areas. Commuters are also encouraged to report violations directly to station staff for immediate action.
Handling an average of 900,000 passengers daily, the Dubai Metro remains one of the busiest transit systems in the region. To sustain efficiency and safety, the RTA continues to promote its courtesy campaign covering etiquette, health, and safety guidelines for all riders.
