49-year-old OFW caregiver killed by Hamas militants arrives in Negros Occidental

The body of Loreta Alacre, a 49-year-old Filipino overseas worker who was tragically killed by Hamas militants in Israel, arrived at Bacolod-Silay Airport on Sunday, October 22.

Alacre, a dedicated caregiver from Cadiz City who worked in Israel for 19 years, was met with grief and sorrow by her family as her remains were received early Sunday morning. Representatives from the Overseas Filipino Workers Administration were also present to extend their support.

Following her arrival, Alacre’s body was taken to a funeral home in Cadiz City for the transition to a formal casket. It will subsequently be brought to her home in Sitio Camay-an, Brgy. Cadiz Viejo on Monday, October 23.

In a tribute to her service and sacrifice, Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. announced that the city government would accord Loreta Alacre a hero’s welcome. He further mentioned that the family had not sought any additional aid from the city, possibly due to the assistance already provided by national government agencies.

Loreta Alacre’s unfortunate death is one of four Filipino casualties reported amidst the current crisis in Israel. The efforts to repatriate her body were facilitated by various national agencies and the Philippine Embassy in Israel, in collaboration with Israeli authorities and airlines.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson also commented on the tragic event, indicating the provincial government’s intent to provide support to the Alacre family. “We will see where we come in, at least, so it can be a significant contribution of the provincial government,” he stated.
