Palace tells Imee Marcos: Stop speaking for the Dutertes over Ombudsman issue

Malacañang has pushed back against Senator Imee Marcos’ claim that the appointment of outgoing Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla as Ombudsman was part of a supposed plan to jail Vice President Sara Duterte.

In a radio interview with Super Radyo dzBB, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said the senator—who is also President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s sister—should not speak on behalf of the Dutertes.

“Bakit po ba natatakot si Senator Imee Marcos sa ganitong mga klase ng mga pag-iisip? Kung wala naman pong naging kasalanan ang mga Duterte, hindi po siya dapat maging spokesperson ng mga Duterte,” Castro said.

Imee earlier alleged that her brother’s decision to name Remulla as the new Ombudsman was politically motivated, hinting it could be used to target the Vice President and her allies by 2028.

Malacañang, however, defended the appointment, stressing that Remulla went through a “very rigorous selection process” before being chosen for the role.

Remulla’s appointment was announced on Tuesday, a day after the Judicial and Bar Council released its shortlist for the position. As of posting time, Senator Marcos has yet to respond to Castro’s remarks, according to GMA News Online.
