Unexpected hail and rain sweep across UAE

Saturday proved to be a wet day for many regions in the UAE, as showers graced some areas, with Fujairah witnessing not just rain but also hailstones on its roads.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) had forecasted such conditions, expecting the rain to continue into Tuesday. As a result, due to these adverse weather patterns, the Met department issued red, orange, and yellow alerts for specific areas. These areas included Fujairah, Al Ain, and Ras Al Khaimah. Particularly, a section of Khor Fakkan was given a red alert, implying that residents should exercise extreme caution if heading outside.

By mid-afternoon, around 3.30pm, Wadi Maydad/Murbad in Fujairah experienced hail accompanied by moderate to heavy rain, as confirmed by the NCM. Moreover, the town of Masafi, located at the crossroads of Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, also reported hailstones.

In addition to monitoring these weather anomalies, the NCM is keeping a watchful eye on a developing tropical storm in the Arabian Sea. It has the potential to escalate into a tropical cyclone within the next day. However, the Met department has clarified that this situation won’t directly affect the UAE. Nevertheless, the moisture drift from the sea to the eastern and southern parts might enhance the probability of cumulus cloud formations, potentially bringing more rain to the region.
