House approves P10.2-B allocation to strengthen services for OFWs

The House of Representatives has given its full approval to the proposed ₱10.202 billion budget for the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) for 2026, following the completion of deliberations on Friday.

Trabaho Party-List Rep. Johanne Bautista, who sponsored the budget measure on the floor, underscored the DMW’s crucial mandate of safeguarding the rights and welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac thanked Bautista and members of Congress for their support, assuring lawmakers that the agency will maximize the use of the funds. “With Congress’ strong support, the DMW is more committed than ever to providing responsive, timely, and meaningful services to our modern-day heroes,” Cacdac said.

The approved budget will focus on strengthening Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) abroad, setting up more OFW helpdesks across the Philippines, and expanding maritime training through the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) to boost the competitiveness of Filipino seafarers.

Cacdac also highlighted the agency’s commitment to intensify campaigns against illegal recruitment and human trafficking, widen access to legal aid for distressed OFWs, and ensure the proper allocation of the AKSYON Fund. Reintegration programs for returning workers, along with welfare support for OFW children and families left behind, were also identified as key priorities for 2026.
