Kapamilya actress Kim Chiu stepped away from her busy taping schedule to extend help to her fellow Cebuanos who were devastated by the powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck northern Cebu on Tuesday night.
Photos released on the official social media pages of the Sunday variety program ASAP on Thursday showed Chiu personally purchasing relief items intended for families in Bogo City and San Remigio, two of the hardest-hit areas. “Queen move, indeed!” the program captioned in its post, lauding the actress’ effort.
The earthquake, which had its epicenter northeast of Bogo, has left at least 72 people dead and nearly 300 others injured. Entire communities have been displaced, with more than 20,000 residents forced out of their homes and infrastructure damage reported across northern Cebu. Bogo recorded the highest number of casualties at 30, followed by San Remigio with 22. Historic structures, bridges, and public buildings were also affected, and over 2,600 aftershocks have been recorded since the initial tremor.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. visited Cebu on Thursday to personally inspect the devastation, pledging aid and assistance to local governments. A state of calamity has since been declared in several municipalities to hasten relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Chiu, who grew up in Cebu City before rising to fame as the first teen winner of Pinoy Big Brother, is also gearing up for her next project, The Alibi, alongside Paulo Avelino, set to stream soon on Prime Video.
