Paolo Duterte lashes out at Trillanes over alleged ICC visit to ex-president

Davao City Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte took to social media on Saturday to criticize former Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV, whom he accused of being sent by the government to conduct a so-called “welfare check” on former President Rodrigo Duterte at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In a fiery Facebook post, Duterte mocked Trillanes, writing: “Si Trililing pala ang pinadala ng mga BANGAG para mag welfare check kay PRRD??” He went on to make disparaging remarks, saying Trillanes should have been placed under quarantine in the Netherlands, and even insulted retired police officer Arturo Lascañas, whom he called Trillanes’ “TUTA.”

He also accused Trillanes of serving “AMO mong BANGAG na mga praning,” and linked him to supposed flood control project funds.

Earlier this week, Vice President Sara Duterte also denounced the reported “welfare check” allegedly conducted by Philippine Embassy officials on their father, adding that they had raised the matter to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

For its part, the ICC clarified that all visits to detainees at its facility are either requested or approved by the person being held, in line with its rules.

According to a report by Politiko, Trillanes traveled to The Hague, Netherlands, from September 16 to 18 as part of a Philippine delegation attending the Tenth Seminar on Cooperation at the ICC.
