Doctors in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, removed a disturbing collection of objects from the stomach of a 35-year-old patient identified as Sachin. The items included 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and two pens, making it one of the most unusual medical cases reported in the state.
According to reports, Sachin, a resident of Hapur, was admitted to a local de-addiction centre where he claimed he was often left hungry. He alleged that patients were given meagre food portions and that meals brought by relatives rarely reached them. In protest, he began stealing spoons from the kitchen, breaking them into pieces, and swallowing them. Water was often used to force the items down, NDTV reported.
His actions eventually led to severe abdominal pain, prompting his transfer to a hospital where scans revealed the shocking discovery. Doctors initially attempted endoscopy but failed due to the sheer number of objects lodged inside his stomach. They later confirmed that such behavior is typically linked to underlying psychological conditions.
The case has also drawn attention to the treatment of patients in rehabilitation centres in the region. A similar incident occurred in Muzaffarnagar in 2022, where 63 spoons were removed from another patient. In that case, the patient denied family claims that he had been force-fed by staff.
