Filipina designer Veejay Floresca makes history as Project Runway season 21 winner

Filipino designer Veejay Floresca was crowned champion of Project Runway season 21, marking another major victory for the Philippines on the global fashion stage.

Floresca, who is now based in the United States, broke into tears when host and judge Heidi Klum announced her as the winner. Fellow finalists Jesus Estrada and Ethan Mundt embraced and congratulated her after their high-pressure fashion showdown.

“I’ve seen you, Heidi, since season 1,” Floresca said on stage. “I was just a little gay boy in the Philippines watching the show, and I’ve always been wanting to do this. And now, this is my time. So thank you so much. Thank you for being part of my dream.”

For Floresca, the triumph carries even deeper meaning. “I think that will really inspire my community that you can actually reach your dreams by being who you are,” she added, emphasizing her pride as a trans woman making history in the competition.

Floresca first gained attention as a runner-up in Project Runway Philippines back in 2008. She also represented the Philippines at Miss Trans Star International 2022, where she finished in the Top 16 while showcasing her own creations.

Before moving abroad to grow her business, Floresca had already established herself as one of the most sought-after designers in the Philippines.
