President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. turned to social media on Thursday night to share a simple but heartfelt gesture—his dinner of okra, a gift from a child evacuee in Tondo, Manila.
“Thank you for my meal tonight, Batching,” the president wrote in his post, highlighting the moment of kindness during his visit to fire victims earlier in the day.
Marcos went to General Vicente Lim Elementary School, where hundreds of residents displaced by the massive fire in Happy Land, Tondo, are temporarily staying. He assured families that the government would help them rebuild their lives.
“Once you are able to return to your homes, we will look into how the government can help rebuild your houses,” Marcos said during his message to the evacuees.
To aid immediate needs, the Department of Social Welfare and Development distributed 2,235 food packs along with hygiene and sleeping kits. Each affected family also received ₱15,000 in cash assistance.
