What was meant to be a joyous occasion turned into a heartbreaking tragedy for the family of Melchor Perez III, a Filipino expatriate in Dubai, after his mother unexpectedly passed away just hours after arriving to attend his wedding.
According to Melchor, his parents flew in on Wednesday night to be part of his big day set for Saturday. But the following morning, their lives were forever changed.
“Doctors confirmed it was a sudden cardiac arrest caused by heart disease. It was a natural death,” he said in a GoFundMe link. “We are still in shock. It was so sudden.”
Melchor described his mother as the heart of their family—loving, selfless, and deeply devoted to her children. As the eldest of five siblings, he is now facing the painful task of bringing her remains back home to the Philippines for a proper burial surrounded by her loved ones.
“She deserves to be laid to rest in the Philippines, where her children and relatives can say goodbye,” he added.
The family has since launched an appeal for assistance, as the costs of repatriation and funeral arrangements are far beyond their means. They are calling on the community for support—whether through donations or by simply sharing their story.
“Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us give her the dignified farewell she deserves,” Melchor said.
