Dubai residents have a new way to boost their income — by delivering Amazon packages on foot in densely populated areas of the emirate.
According to a report by Khaleej Times, the initiative was jointly announced by Amazon UAE and the Dubai Future Foundation. It is part of the Sandbox Dubai programme under the Gig Economy sector, an initiative approved by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.
The pilot programme allows individuals and small business owners to take on flexible, part-time delivery work without the need for a vehicle. A demonstration video showed how the system works: a grocery worker named Mohammed stepped out after hearing a delivery van, put on a vest, and proceeded to hand over packages to nearby residents on foot.
Officials noted that the project not only provides opportunities for extra earnings but also helps optimize idle hours for workers and entrepreneurs. At the same time, it reduces reliance on delivery vehicles, cutting down traffic congestion and carbon emissions.
