No groom, no problem: Woman marries herself after saving for 20 years

Sarah Wilkinson, 42, from Suffolk, had dreamt of her perfect wedding day for the last two decades. However, despite not finding her ideal partner, she decided not to let that stand in her way.

After saving diligently for her big day, Wilkinson held a unique wedding ceremony at Harvest House in Felixstowe, where she was both the bride and the focal point. She had previously treated herself to a diamond engagement ring during the Covid-19 lockdown, realizing she no longer needed to wait for someone else to do so.

The ceremony mirrored traditional weddings, with Wilkinson donning a white bridal gown. In a touching moment, her mother accompanied her down the aisle. The event also featured a tiered cake, crowned with a figurine of a bride and a frog.

Social media users have overwhelmingly embraced Wilkinson’s empowering decision. Comments ranged from praise for her choice to observations on finding innovative ways to attain happiness.

Wilkinson spent £10,000 on her unique celebration, which saw 40 friends and family members during the day, followed by an evening gathering of another 40 attendees.

Describing the joyful event, Wilkinson said, “No one stopped smiling all day and everyone said what an amazing time they had.”

Many attendees felt the day was a perfect reflection of her, remarking, “That’s such a Sarah thing to do.”
