Six Filipinos have been detained in Hong Kong after authorities accused them of illegally running a dental clinic while pretending to be licensed dentists, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed on Wednesday.
According to the DFA, the individuals, aged 34 to 60, were originally employed as domestic helpers but were arrested on August 17 for “breach of condition of stay by taking up unapproved employment and establishing, or joining in business in Hong Kong; and falsely pretending to be a dentist.”
A report by the South China Morning Post revealed that the alleged operation was conducted inside a tenement flat in Sham Shui Po, where 13 customers were present during the raid. Authorities suspect the group had been operating an unlicensed dental practice.
The Philippine Consulate and the Migrant Workers Office in Hong Kong are now extending assistance to the six Filipinos while official investigations continue. The DFA added that Philippine officials are coordinating closely with Hong Kong authorities to monitor the case and provide support as needed.
