Emirati mountaineer Rashid Ghanem Al Shamsi has proudly raised the UAE flag at the summit of Mount Elbrus, Europe’s tallest mountain standing 5,642 metres above sea level. His climb through snowstorms, biting winds, and icy terrain in Russia’s Caucasus range tested his strength and spirit but ended in triumph.
Despite the punishing conditions, Al Shamsi described the achievement as more than a physical victory. “I dedicate this accomplishment to my country, the UAE, and to everyone who believes that willpower makes the impossible possible,” he said after reaching the peak. He stressed that conquering Elbrus was not only about a mountain but about reaching “the peak of determination and resolve.”
Mount Elbrus, part of the world-renowned Seven Summits, is one of the most demanding climbs due to its harsh climate and rugged geography. Al Shamsi’s success highlights the courage of Emirati adventurers and reflects the determination of UAE youth to make their mark on the world stage.
