A heartbreaking fire in Barangay San Geronimo, Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya claimed the lives of several pet dogs and destroyed a tenant’s goods on Thursday morning, August 14, according to a report by ABS-CBN News.
The Bagabag Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the tenant’s child first noticed a burning smell before spotting flames in a ground-floor room. The fire reportedly began when an electric fan—aimed at a pet shih tzu nursing seven puppies—overheated, causing light bulbs to explode and the wooden wall nearby to ignite.
The owner managed to pull the mother dog to safety, but the animal ran back inside for her puppies, resulting in all of them being trapped and killed in the blaze.
SFO2 Helen Grace Buen said the house had already become too unstable for firefighters to attempt a rescue of the pets. She also urged the public to help during fires rather than just record videos, noting that many bystanders failed to assist before the BFP arrived.
