OFW triumphs over pandemic setbacks, embarks on inspiring healthcare journey in Abu Dhabi

In the bustling city of Abu Dhabi, amidst the grandeur of skyscrapers and the hum of daily life, one Filipina has woven a tapestry of resilience, dedication, and faith.

Angelica M. Macapagal, a graduate of the Caregiver Professional Diploma from the Filipino Institute-Abu Dhabi campus, epitomizes the enduring spirit of many Filipinos who venture overseas, seeking not just a better life but also the fulfillment of dreams.

Finding strength in adversity

“When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, I found myself laid off from my job as a Sales Representative,” Macapagal recalls.

Those were trying times, as lockdown restrictions meant she was stuck without employment for six months. But for Angelica, giving up was not an option.

“I continued to rise and fight until I had a job again as a Receptionist,” she says with a hint of pride.

The pandemic brought more than just the challenge of unemployment. For Angelica, it was a lesson in the importance of time.

“During the hard times, I learned how valuable not to waste time,” she shares. This newfound appreciation for every ticking second led her to the doors of the Filipino Institute in Abu Dhabi.

Juggling dreams and reality

For many, managing work and study can be daunting.

“Balancing work and study is not a piece of cake,” Macapagal acknowledges.

“I worked two jobs, full-time and part-time, to have extra income to support my family.”

It’s clear that every decision Angelica made was anchored on her family’s well-being. And while the journey was littered with obstacles, her faith provided solace.

“I surrender everything to God and trust Him in all circumstances. I felt He guided and led me to this. Thank you, Jesus Christ, for being my savior,” she says fervently.

At the Filipino Institute, Angelica found not just education but also a community.

“My journey at the Filipino Institute was all worth it. I am grateful for the opportunity that they offer to all workers who aim to succeed and change their profession,” she shares.

And Angelica does not forget those who helped shape her journey.

“To my Trainer, Ms. Nancy Malabag Ramos, thank you so much for her constant guidance in sharing valuable knowledge and skills. It was a huge help to my future since I graduated.”

Today, Angelica works in a healthcare organization. It’s a challenging environment, but one that she cherishes.

“Working in a healthcare organization is compelling because of the continuous learning and experiences,” she states.

The switch to healthcare has not only provided a more stable income but has also paved a life-changing career path toward her dreams.

“It was a blessing,” Angelica smiles, “and I’m grateful that I can now support my family better than before.”
