Filipino rapper in Dubai turns sister’s battle with mental illness into a powerful anthem

In a city built on ambition and neon skylines, where everyone’s chasing a future, one voice echoes something deeper a cry for healing, a song for survival.

That voice belongs to AMGDL, a Filipino rapper based in Dubai, whose latest single, MAVE, isn’t just music. It’s a message, a prayer, a personal battle set to beat.

At 21, AMGDL is no stranger to pain. While others rap about fame, money, and flexing, he raps about his sister, silently fighting a personality disorder back home in the Philippines. He raps about mental health, isolation, and how music became his weapon of choice in a world that rarely stops to listen.

“This is for her.”

The song MAVE, named after his sister, was born out of distance and desperation. “She’s battling depression and anxiety,” AMGDL shares. “I couldn’t be there, so I did what I could. I wrote.”

But this isn’t your typical sad-boy track. MAVE burns with raw honesty. There are no gimmicks here—just the sound of a brother trying to make sense of the weight he carries. And in doing so, he’s helping others lift theirs.

“I was affected too,” he says. “But I turned that pain into something people could feel.”

From Silence to Sound

Before the mic, AMGDL was quiet. Anxious in crowds. Nervous around strangers. But something happens when he raps he becomes unshakable.

“Rap gives me confidence that I don’t have in real life,” he admits. “Pag-usapang rap na, hindi ako nagpapatalo sa hiya.”

He found freedom in rhyme. The kind of freedom that lets you scream your truth and call it art. “The more intricate the lyrics, the more satisfying it is. Writing something that hurts, but also heals? That’s the point.”

A New Chapter : The Box Records

AMGDL’s journey hit a new stride when he officially signed with The Box Records in August 2024 — the first Filipino-owned record label in the Middle East.

“I was scared at first,” he admits. “But they believed in me. They helped me grow, improve my sound, and pushed me to put more of myself into the music.”

Since signing, AMGDL has released:

3 original singles, including MAVE and Supasta

2 lyric videos, and

A music video for his track “Supasta”, which showcases his charisma, message, and growth as a performer.

What started as a leap of faith has now become a catalog of purpose-driven music. The Box didn’t just give him a label — they gave him a launchpad.

Brotherhood in Bars: Issa Loki & Dubai’s Rising Scene

A major force behind AMGDL’s growth is his friendship with Issa Loki — a renowned rapper from the Philippines known for his raw lyricism and cult following.

In November 2024, Issa Loki headlined a concert in Dubai, and invited AMGDL to perform alongside him, marking a major milestone in AMGDL’s young career.

“Issa’s not just a mentor or an influence,” AMGDL says. “He’s a brother. Performing beside him was surreal — and a big push for me to keep going.”

Sharing the Stage with Icons

And the momentum didn’t stop there. In January 2025, AMGDL opened as a front act for the legendary Gloc-9 during his live concert in Dubai.

“I grew up memorizing Gloc’s lines,” he says. “To open for him, to share my story before the crowd even got to hear his—it felt like I belonged to something bigger. It was validation.”

From local stages to legacy moments, AMGDL is proving that authenticity has power—and that even soft-spoken voices can leave loud echoes

“You’re Not Alone.”

That’s the heart of MAVE. Not fame. Not streams. Just the truth that someone, somewhere, might hear it and feel less alone.

“I’ve had people message me after hearing it. They said it reminded them of someone they lost… or someone they’re still trying to save. That means everything to me.”

He’s not here to save the world. Just one person at a time.

What’s Next?

More music. More stories. “We’re working on new tracks under The Box,” he says. “But for now, I just want people to hear MAVE. It’s for everyone who’s silently fighting.”

MAVE is now streaming on Spotify, youtube and iTunes. If you’ve ever needed a reason to keep going press play.
