The European Union (EU) is extending €500,000 (more than ₱33 million) in humanitarian assistance to the Philippines to support emergency efforts in areas devastated by recent typhoons and the persistent Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).
In a statement released Monday, the EU emphasized that the funding aims to support the most affected communities in Calabarzon and Central Luzon, particularly those in isolated and hard-to-reach locations.
“The funding will help address the most pressing needs of people in the hardest hit areas,” the EU said, highlighting that the aid will primarily be used for emergency cash assistance to tackle food insecurity, provide access to safe drinking water, and improve sanitation services.
The newly announced funding comes on top of the €6 million the EU has already committed to humanitarian aid and disaster preparedness for the Philippines in 2025.
As per the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), more than 2.3 million families—or about 8.6 million individuals—have been affected by the recent string of tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong, compounded by monsoon rains.
The impact has been deadly and destructive, with at least 38 reported fatalities and agricultural damage climbing to over ₱1.9 billion.
