UAE launches visa, labor law awareness campaign

The UAE has initiated a comprehensive awareness campaign to educate the public on visa regulations and provisions of the updated labour law. The campaign, launched on Tuesday, focuses on highlighting the importance of expatriates and tourists renewing or rectifying their visa status upon expiration. This can be done either by obtaining a new visa or leaving the country.

Additionally, the campaign aims to illuminate the key changes in the UAE labour law that came into force last year. Various media activities, spanning four languages – Arabic, English, Urdu, and Swahili – will be employed to reach a broader audience.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) are spearheading this initiative, set to last for three months. Participation is expected from multiple government bodies and free zones.

Khalil Al Khoori, the undersecretary for Human Resources Affairs at MoHRE, emphasized the campaign’s objective: “The goal is to acquaint individuals with the essential rules concerning entry, residency for foreign nationals in the UAE, and labour relations. By doing so, we hope to encourage adherence to these regulations, safeguarding the rights of all parties in employment relations.”

In tandem, Major-General Suhail Al Khaili, director-general of the ICP, pointed out that the campaign will also shed light on the punitive measures against those who violate these regulations.
