Ride breaks mid-air at Saudi fair, injures 23 people

A terrifying accident at an amusement park in Taif, Saudi Arabia left at least 23 people injured after a ride known as “360 Degrees” broke apart mid-operation, sending its carousel crashing violently to the ground.

Dramatic footage shared online shows the circular ride suddenly snapping in half while in motion, hurling passengers down from a height of several meters.

According to Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV, four of the victims suffered serious injuries during the incident, which occurred on Wednesday. The amusement park has since been shut down as authorities launch a full investigation into the cause of the mechanical failure.

The incident comes as Saudi Arabia continues to heavily invest in entertainment and leisure infrastructure under its Vision 2030 initiative. Projects like Qiddiya—an upcoming “entertainment city” near Riyadh—highlight the kingdom’s push to transform itself into a global tourist and recreation hub beyond its oil-rich identity.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement, but safety measures and operational protocols are expected to come under scrutiny following the accident.
