A groom on his way to his own wedding was left seriously injured after the vehicle he was traveling in rolled down a steep embankment in Hunter Valley, Australia.
The incident occurred on the morning of July 30 along Mount View Road in Mount View, prompting a swift response from emergency services. New South Wales Police confirmed that a minibus carrying the groom and other passengers veered off the dirt road and tumbled down an embankment—rolling as many as seven times before coming to a halt nearly 150 meters from the road.
Authorities said two passengers, including the groom, sustained serious but stable injuries. According to 7News, the 56-year-old groom suffered injuries to his limbs, while another man in his 60s had to be extracted from the vehicle after 45 minutes due to head injuries.
Four others in the vehicle were treated for minor injuries, and all occupants were taken to the hospital for further care.
A crime scene has been established, and the crash is now under investigation by the Hunter Valley Police District.
Steve Laksa, commander of the local police district, noted that road conditions may have played a role. “It’s drizzling, dirt road, unsealed road—could have all been factors in the collision,” he said. He also confirmed that there were no initial signs that alcohol was involved, though the driver would still undergo mandatory blood and alcohol testing.
“They hadn’t even got to the wedding yet,” Laksa added. “We’re very fortunate that the injuries weren’t fatal.”
