Runthusiasts celebrates 7 years of running, community, and connection in Abu Dhabi

From an informal group of midweek runners to one of the most spirited running communities in Abu Dhabi, Runthusiasts has marked its seventh anniversary with a celebration rooted in shared passion, inclusivity, and joy.

Launched in 2015 after the Nike Running Club’s exit from the city, the group started as a loose gathering of friends who simply didn’t want the runs to end. Meeting every Wednesday, they called themselves the “Wednesday Running Club”—a tradition that soon evolved into something more lasting. Their growing passion inspired a new identity: Runthusiasts.

Seven years later, that same energy has transformed into a thriving, diverse crew of beginners and seasoned athletes alike, bonded by their love for movement and a culture of support. Weekly runs have become platforms for milestones, encouragement, and friendships that extend well beyond the track.

The group’s seventh anniversary event was a fitting tribute to its journey. Held in Abu Dhabi, the celebration featured 21KM, 10KM, and 5KM race categories, as well as a fun run for casual participants. The day echoed the Runthusiasts spirit—sweat, smiles, and solidarity, regardless of pace.

Leading up to the anniversary, members took part in the group’s annual Summertide Challenge, pushing through the summer heat with unwavering commitment. The challenge culminated in an awarding ceremony that recognized the most consistent runners, reinforcing the group’s belief that dedication isn’t seasonal.

A major highlight of the anniversary was the collaboration with Adidas Runners Abu Dhabi, many of whom are also part of the Runthusiasts family. While the event showcased the synergy between the two groups, Runthusiasts emphasized its continued independence and neutrality, staying true to its core philosophy of inclusivity over brand identity.

“Runthusiasts remains a neutral and independent community, open to all runners regardless of brand affiliation,” the group reaffirmed. “It’s not about the logo on your gear, but the energy you bring to the group.”

The event was made even more memorable with the help of generous sponsors who contributed hydration stations, snacks, giveaways, and photo coverage.
