Despite the weather, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) continues to uphold its commitment to protect and support distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
On Thursday afternoon, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac personally visited four OFW repatriates from Fujairah, UAE, now staying in temporary accommodation in the Philippines. The four had been rescued after reportedly suffering abuse and non-payment of wages at the hands of their employer.
During the visit, Secretary Cacdac assured the victims that they will receive immediate support through the DMW AKSYON Fund, which includes financial and legal assistance tailored to help them recover from their ordeal.
Cacdac also emphasized that the DMW is preparing legal action against the agency and employers responsible, citing their neglect of the OFWs’ rights and welfare.
He extended his gratitude to OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan and the OWWA team for their continued response and assistance. The OFWs are being provided with food, transportation, and shelter as they undergo legal processing and work towards rebuilding their lives.
