Prince Alwaleed bin Khalid bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, widely known as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away after spending nearly 20 years in a coma. The announcement was made by the Royal Court through the Saudi Press Agency on Saturday, July 19.
The prince had been in a coma since a car accident in 2005, capturing the attention and prayers of many across the Kingdom and beyond.
Funeral prayers are scheduled to be held on Sunday, July 20, after the Asr prayer at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. The funeral and condolence services will take place over three days. Male visitors will be received at Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal’s Palace in Al-Fakhariya, while female visitors will gather at Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz’s Palace following Maghrib prayers.
In a deeply emotional message posted on social media platform X, his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, expressed his grief: “With hearts full of faith in Allah’s decree and destiny, and with profound sadness and sorrow, we mourn our beloved son…”
Prince Khaled had been steadfast in his faith and hope for his son’s recovery throughout the years, offering prayers during the holiest moments of Islamic observance—from Ramadan to Eid Al Adha. Just this past June, he and his other sons visited Prince Alwaleed, sharing a heartfelt prayer online that again touched the hearts of many.
