Wizz Air suspends multiple UAE routes, including Belgrade and Sarajevo flights

Passengers flying out of Abu Dhabi on low-cost carrier Wizz Air may need to rethink their summer travel plans as the airline rolls out major changes to its network, suspending or discontinuing several key routes.

Effective immediately, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has stopped ticket sales for flights to Belgrade and Sarajevo. The final flight to Belgrade is set for July 19, while Sarajevo operations will cease by August 31. These two routes, once exclusive to the airline, carried thousands of passengers annually, with over 82,000 travelers flying to Belgrade in the past year alone.

Several other destinations are also impacted. Flights to Varna will end on July 14, Tirana on July 20, and Kutaisi on July 29. Meanwhile, services to Krakow, Budapest, Vienna, Katowice, Astana, and Samarkand are being temporarily paused, with expected resumptions ranging from September to November. Routes to Sofia and Cluj have already been scrapped altogether.

The airline cited ongoing engine inspections and maintenance issues—particularly due to extreme heat and dusty conditions in the region—as contributing factors. Many of the affected routes rely on Wizz Air’s Airbus A321neo fleet, which has faced operational strain.

In a statement, a Wizz Air Abu Dhabi spokesperson explained that communication has been difficult with some passengers. “More than two-thirds of them did not book their tickets directly with the airline… these online ticketing portals do not forward the contact details of the passengers to the airlines,” the spokesperson said.

For passengers whose outbound flights remain but return legs are cancelled, the airline confirmed that full refunds may still be requested by contacting the Wizz Air call centre.

A dedicated 24-hour hotline (+361 677 7530) has been set up for affected travelers—particularly those who booked through third-party platforms—to provide assistance with rebookings or refunds. International roaming charges apply for the Hungary-based number.

Passengers are urged to check their bookings and explore alternative travel options as Wizz Air continues to assess its operations in the region.
