CBCP calls for justice for murdered OFW in Saudi Arabia

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has implored the Philippine government to ensure justice for Marjorette Garcia, a domestic worker who was tragically killed in Saudi Arabia.

Bishop Ruperto Santos, the vice president of the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People (ECMI), conveyed the urgency of their plea in a statement: “Justice must be served. Her death should not be in vain. We appeal to our government offices to exhaust all means to prosecute the killers.”

Garcia’s untimely demise has resonated with many due to her commitment to her family. The Antipolo bishop remarked, “It is so sad, very tragic. A precious life is lost, together with her noble and worthy dreams for her family. She came with sacrificial intentions to ensure a better and brighter future for her loved ones. And she was true and faithful with her works.”

The CBCP will hold prayers and Masses in Garcia’s memory and for her soul’s peace. They will also pray for her grieving family, hoping they find strength and healing during this tough time.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a murder suspect has been apprehended by Saudi Arabian authorities, with investigations currently in progress.
