A man in Abu Dhabi has been ordered to pay AED 7,000 in damages after the court found him guilty of verbally abusing a woman and sending her offensive audio messages via a social media platform.
According to a Gulf Today report, the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court issued the ruling after reviewing a criminal case previously filed by the victim, which confirmed that the man had insulted her during a phone call and followed up with defamatory voice messages online.
The woman initially sought AED 30,000 in compensation, citing emotional distress and damage to her reputation. She also requested coverage of legal fees and related expenses. The court, however, determined that an AED 7,000 payout was sufficient for the “moral harm” she endured, describing it as “pain and grief.”
Citing Articles 292 and 293/1 of the Civil Transactions Law, the court emphasized that anyone proven to have caused harm to another is legally bound to provide compensation.
