Filipino nurse in UAE receives gold coin from UAE president as tribute to COVID-19 heroes

A Filipino nurse in the UAE was overcome with emotion after receiving a gold coin from UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan—an honor reserved for frontline heroes who served during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a heartfelt TikTok video, healthcare worker Tito Michael, known online as @tito.michael89, shared the moment he discovered the surprise recognition. Initially thinking it was a company gift, he unboxed the gold coin with visible shock and joy, saying, “Wow, is this a gold coin?” and jokingly asked, “Can I pawn it? Is it real?” before adding with gratitude, “It’s better late than never.”

The coin came with a powerful message from the UAE President himself, thanking recipients for their courage and sacrifice during one of the country’s most difficult chapters. The letter reads in part: “The entire nation is immensely proud and grateful for your tireless efforts to protect the health and safety of our people. Your selflessness and courage have deeply touched us all.”

Tito Michael, who served on the frontlines during the height of the pandemic, ended his video with a sincere message in both English and Arabic: “Thank you, Mr. President. Shukran Jaseelan.”
